Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has been instructed to market Y Castell, a centrally located pub with rooms on Castle Square in Caernarfon.
Situated just 100 metres from Caernarfon Castle, Y Castell was built in around 1827 and originally served as the town’s post office. Today, the imposing, characterful property is a thriving town centre pub-restaurant, with eleven letting bedrooms and a function room, and the business has established a strong, loyal customer base.
Y Castell has been owned by Gwyndaf Jones since 2011, who has decided to step back from running the busy venue and sell the leasehold. Gwyndaf commented, “The business would be ideal for a couple with the drive to extend the room and food offerings. Recently, we were regularly mentioned in the Good Food Guide. Sadly, I was diagnosed with advanced cancer last year, and I will continue to receive treatment for the foreseeable future. As such I am no longer able to work. It is a great opportunity for a new operator, particularly being free of tie.”
The sale presents an opportunity for a new owner to take the reins and continue building the business further. There is the potential to develop a further five letting bedrooms (subject to planning consents), and there is expired planning permission for an extensive south-facing balcony to the rear, with magnificent views of the Menai Straight, Snowdonia, Caernarfon Harbour, Anglesey, and the castle.
James Dodd, Business Agent at Christie & Co, commented, “Y Castell represents a rare opportunity to acquire a landmark hospitality business in the heart of Caernarfon. With its rich history, prime location, and scope for expansion, it offers incoming operators a chance to build on a well-established foundation and take the business to the next level.”
Y Castell is on the market with a leasehold asking price of £70,000.
