Caerphilly Council to suspend car parking charges until March

Town of Caerphilly, Wales, United Kingdom.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet approve plans for the temporary suspension of car parking charges until 31st March 2021.

A report was considered by Cabinet at a virtual meeting on 9th December where they have approved the suspension of charges for council owned car parks across the borough until the 31st March 2021 when it will be subject to further review.

The economic climate remains extremely challenging for town centres. A key message in the fight against Covid-19 has been to “stay local”. Caerphilly Council support this message so will reduce the financial burden on residents by continuing to offer free car parking at its town centre car parks and country parks.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has already committed to offer free car parking until 31st December 2020 but given the recent restrictions imposed by Welsh Government, Cabinet have agreed to extend the period to the end of March.

Cllr. Sean Morgan, Cabinet Member for Economy and Enterprise, said: “As a council, we are doing all we can to support local businesses during this challenging time. We want to encourage all our residents to shop and dine locally, so I am pleased to confirm that the council will provide this free parking concession until at least the end of March as part of our support.”
