A CARDIFF veterinary practice has undergone a transformation to offer even higher levels of care to poorly pets.
Improvements to St-David Veterinary Centre in Pentwyn Drive, Pentwyn, include a modernised reception, additional consultation room, X-ray room and a dental suite. A cat-only waiting area has also been created, equipped with a shelf where cat carriers can be placed up high, to keep feline patients separate from dogs and make a trip to the vets less stressful for them.
The £142,000 refurbishment project took 12 weeks to complete and has been funded by VetPartners, the larger veterinary group St-David Veterinary Centre is part of.
St-David Veterinary Centre’s clinical director Claire Masling-Jones said the updated facilities have made it possible for the practice to offer more appointments to poorly pets and deliver an even better service to patients.
Claire said: “This was a much-needed facelift as the vet practice has been here for 24 years and very few updates have been done during that time. Unfortunately, increasing the size of the building wasn’t an option, so we focused our attention on updating our facilities and making best use of the space we have.
“Pet ownership hugely increased over lockdown and veterinary care is in high demand, and a major benefit of the revamp is that we now have more appointments available for clients and their pets. This is because we have created an extra consultation room and dedicated rooms for our X-ray and dental suite, which previously had to share space used for other procedures.
“We are particularly proud of our new-look waiting area, which is fresh and vibrant, and we have installed a reception desk with a lower section to make the practice more accessible for wheelchair users. The cat-friendly facilities are a fantastic addition for our feline patients.
“It has created a much nicer working environment for our team, too, as the space is more practical and user friendly and it has transformed what we are able to do.”
An investment has also been made in new equipment, with the practice benefiting from a tub table for dental procedures and a floating-top X-ray machine to achieve higher quality images.
St-David Veterinary Group employs 10 vets, 11 veterinary nurses, two student veterinary nurses and five animal nursing assistants and also has a surgery in Llanishen.
