More than 30,000 fans packed Blackweir Fields in Cardiff on Wednesday night as British rock legends The Cure delivered the biggest headline show of their career in Wales.
Concertgoers braved soaring temperatures, with the day reportedly becoming the hottest June day on record, before being rewarded with a spectacular two and a half hour performance spanning more than four decades of the band’s music.
Fresh from their headline appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees treated fans to an extensive set featuring many of their best loved songs.
Frontman Robert Smith greeted the Cardiff crowd with a heartfelt “Diolch” before launching into a string of classics including Pictures Of You, Inbetween Days, Just Like Heaven, Lovesong, A Forest and Disintegration.
The evening ended in style with a 10 song encore. Fittingly, the band performed Hot Hot Hot!!! on one of the hottest days of the year, before closing the night with fan favourites including The Walk, The Lovecats, Friday I’m In Love, Close To Me, Why Can’t I Be You? and Boys Don’t Cry.
The Cardiff performance was one of the band’s first UK shows since the release of their chart topping album Songs of A Lost World.
Support came from The Joy Formidable and The Twilight Sad, both personally selected by Robert Smith.
Blackweir 2026 continues on Friday with Teddy Swims, followed by two headline shows from Lewis Capaldi before the series concludes with a sold out performance from US superstar Pitbull.
