Newport will be taking part in a specially designed augmented reality trail to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The trail is an experience where players visit seven characters that have come to life from Buckingham Palace and are visiting locations around Newport on a day out.

Players, guided by Sir Barnaby Beacon, visit each character including Charlie Crown and Theadora Throne, learning about a different decade in Her Majesty’s 70-year reign and ‘choose their own adventure’ as they progress around the trail.

This innovative experience is completely contactless and free – all you need is a smartphone. It’s so easy to get involved – simply scan the QR codes displayed at each of the locations in the city centre and Caerleon, choose what happens in the story and see the characters come to life in augmented reality. You can even take selfies and record videos with them!

Collect the stamps at each location and you can also claim a free, digital fun pack and e-book that conclude the story.

The trail will run from 30 April until 12 June and will help create a buzz and raise awareness in the weeks leading up to the lighting of Newport’s Jubilee Beacon.

The trail locations are as follows – look out for the colourful characters on display!

    • Coffiology, High Street, Caerleon
    • Fresh Start, Goldcroft Common, Caerleon
    • Newport Market, High Street, Newport
    • Coffee Corner, Friars Walk, Newport
    • Riverfront Theatre, Kutaisi Walk, Newport
    • Octopus Lounge, East Dock Road, Newport
    • Hortons Coffee House, Millennium Walk, Newport

The Beacon Trail is delivered in partnership with High Street Safari. Not only is the trail an innovative and fun day out for players, but you can also choose to donate to Help for Heroes to support our veterans and their families.
