Two exceptionally talented scholars from the Royal Academy of Music are joining in concert at The Neuadd in Christ College Brecon on 15 May for a one-off musical medley combining harp and piano. Old Breconian and exquisite harpist Anna Phillips is returning to her former college this spring along with her pianist peer Konya Kanneh-Mason for an exclusive performance of Two Friends in Concert. Christ College will open its doors to all for the musical extravaganza, sponsored by Effective Communication.

Welsh Anna is no stranger to the spotlight having performed in a joint concert with King Charles’ former official harpist Claire Jones, as well as in front of the Duchess of Gloucester in Covent Garden and in Times Square with the American Youth Harp Ensemble. She will perform her debut solo recital at Wigmore Hall in London later this year.

Konya, who is a quarter Welsh, is part of ‘Britain’s most musical family’ and has performed in concerts around the world with her six gifted siblings including the 2018 BAFTAs, the 2021 BBC Proms at The Royal Albert Hall and The Royal Variety Performance. Konya and her family have appeared in several documentaries including BBC FOUR’s Young, Gifted and Classical and BBC One’s 2020 lockdown-inspired Imagine series.

Jonathan Ling, Director of Music at Christ College Brecon, said: “We are so excited to welcome Anna back and are delighted she is bringing Konya with her to perform at The Neuadd for what will be a fantastic night of moving music.

“Anna’s musical talent thrived whilst studying here at Christ College, also performing violin, piano and in the Chapel Choir, and to see her return as a scholar of The Royal Academy of Music alongside Konya is heartening. We look forward to welcoming the Christ College family and friends , the local community and those passionate about music to the show.”

Two Friends in Concert takes place on 15 May in The Neuadd in Christ College Brecon and is open to the general public. Tickets are £10 and can be purchased here.
