City sports and cocktail bar submits planning application for vibrant new venue

Exciting plans are underway for Bangor’s High Street as City Sports and Cocktail Bar announces the submission of a planning application to transform the former H&M building into a dynamic new venue. This ambitious project aims to rejuvenate the local economy by offering a unique blend of entertainment, dining, and nightlife that appeals to residents and visitors.

City Sports and Cocktail Bar will feature an array of amenities, including pool tables, electronic games, and an American-style dining experience focusing on indulgent, “dirty” food such as loaded fries and other comfort classics. The venue will serve food throughout the day and evening, transitioning into a lively nightspot for locals and students alike.

The former H&M building has been vacant for over four years. The new proposed use as a sports and cocktail bar offers an ideal solution for a unit with two floors of retail space, which has proven challenging to fill in today’s retail environment.

The initiative is set to generate significant employment opportunities, with a minimum of 30 jobs initially, potentially rising to 42 as the business grows. This development is expected to stimulate further investment and attract additional businesses to the area, enhancing Bangor’s appeal as a destination for both daytime and nighttime activities.

Rob, CEO of Bearmont Capital and landlord of the upcoming venue, said: “Night-time trade in Bangor city centre needs a boost, and we are confident that the proposed sports bar would fill a massive gap in the food, beverage, and entertainment market. We need to make Bangor an exciting place, bringing in a diverse offering that adds an element of excitement. It’s been a pleasure working with Chris, who is very determined and has come up with a fantastic idea for both day and night-time trade.

“The proposed plans cater to all. It takes time to let units, but what we have achieved in just over 12 months since Bearmont acquired the centre shows commitment, creativity, ambition, and ingenuity. Investing much-needed capital without grants is a testament to our vision and flexibility. I am proud of the team, particularly Bearmont Construction and all our local subcontractors. I have met some great people in Bangor over the last year who share the same passion and drive to revitalise Bangor and make it vibrant.”

Jamie Roberts, spokesperson for City Sports and Cocktail Bar, said: “We are confident that this new venue will be a game-changer for Bangor. By providing a diverse mix of entertainment and dining options, we hope to create a vibrant atmosphere that attracts a broad audience. We aim to support the local community, drive economic growth, and contribute to a more dynamic and appealing High Street. We believe City Sports and Cocktail Bar will draw visitors from Anglesey, Caernarfon, and beyond, supporting the local economy and encouraging other traders to invest in Bangor’s future. Our goal is to make Bangor a destination of choice, keeping the local economy thriving and reducing the need for people to travel further afield.”
