A ‘breaking-ground’ event celebrated the start of construction on a £7.5 million homes regeneration development by Newport City Homes in the Ringland area of Newport.

The redevelopment of the Cot Farm estate – which is being carried out by partnership homes developer Lovell – is the first element of a wide-ranging programme set to bring new life to the area.

Residents on the steering group set up to shape the redevelopment joined representatives from Newport City Homes, Lovell and Newport City Council to mark building work getting under way on 56 modern social rented two- and three-bedroom houses and one- and two-bedroom apartments.

The new homes, set for completion in summer 2020, are taking shape through a large-scale transformation programme for Ringland which has been developed in close consultation with the local community.

Newport City Homes chair Nicola Somerville says:

“Newport City Homes have been working with the community in Ringland for the last two years, to ensure local people are engaged and directing the first stage of our ambitious regeneration plans for Ringland.  We are delighted that Lovell have joined us in this partnership, as they share our commitment to working with local people to realise the potential for the area.  Work on the broader masterplan for the area continues with our colleagues at Newport City Council and the broader community. “

Lovell regional managing director Kate Rees says: “The start of construction on these new homes represents a key step forward in the regeneration of Ringland.

“Our experienced team are proud to be working in partnership with Newport City Homes using our expertise in large-scale housing-focused renewal programmes to deliver these much-needed houses and apartments which will widen choice for local people and contribute to a new and exciting future for the area.”

Councillor Debbie Wilcox, leader of Newport City Council, is delighted to see the project to create new homes in Ringland get off the ground.

“This will revitalise the area and ensure residents can have pride in their community with this excellent project. We look forward to seeing the work completed next year,” says Cllr Wilcox.
