A new video has revealed major progress on the landmark living building scheme taking shape in Swansea city centre.
The Biophilic Living Biome development is being led by Hacer Developments in partnership with Pobl Group and brings together the former Woolworths building on Oxford Street with a new adjoining 13 storey tower.
Anticipated to be completed in the first half of 2026, the scheme is designed around sustainability and wellbeing. Once finished, it will include an urban style greenhouse set across four floors, an education facility, rooftop gardens, wildflower borders and a range of green spaces.
The development will also provide apartments managed by Pobl, around 32,000 square feet of commercial floor space for businesses, retail units and a bio solar roof. The building will use ambient loop heating, sustainable drainage systems, solar power and an air source heat system.
When complete, the living building is expected to accommodate up to 500 people through a mix of homes and jobs, forming a key part of Swansea’s long term regeneration plans.
The project is one of several major schemes contributing to a regeneration programme worth more than £1bn that is transforming Swansea city centre. Nearby, the office development at 71 and 72 Kingsway, led by Swansea Council and part funded by the Swansea Bay City Deal, is already seeing strong demand, with around 80 percent of office space now let.
Funding for the living building comes from a mix of private sector investment and public support, including backing from the Welsh Government, Pobl and the Development Bank of Wales.
The newly released drone footage showing progress on site was commissioned by Powell Dobson architects, offering a clear view of how the ambitious scheme is taking shape ahead of its planned completion next year.
