Simon Whiting has been appointed the new Centre Manager at Mermaid Quay, the 150,000 sq ft leisure destination on the waterfront in the heart of Cardiff Bay.

Simon Whiting, new Centre Manager at Mermaid Quay

Simon has a background in property, facilities and shopping centre management.  He started off as a security guard, literally working on the “shop floor” and, through a dedicated and entrepreneurial approach, has risen up the ladder.  He joins Mermaid Quay from the Maylord Shopping Centre in Hereford, where he was centre manager.

Simon replaces Justin Patel, who was the Centre Manager at Mermaid Quay for five  successful years.  Justin has now taken up a new role at BAE Systems.

Simon is looking forward to getting his teeth into his new role at Mermaid Quay.

Commenting on his appointment, Simon said: “This a fantastic opportunity to work in one of the most important locations in one of the UK’s most dynamic cities.  It is such an exciting time for Mermaid Quay, which is in the middle of a strategic repositioning with major projects, such as the Everyman cinema (which opened just before Christmas) complete – and others – such as the public realm refurbishment as well as the opening of Hubbox and other new tenants – due in 2020.

“Right on the waterfront in the heart of the Bay, Mermaid Quay is already well established as a top leisure destination for both Cardiff residents and visitors from across South Wales and beyond.  Its great mix of restaurants, cafés and bars is just getting better and better, and I look forward to working with the team to implement all the exciting improvements that are in the pipeline.”
