Steve Backshall MBE, the enduringly popular adventurer and presenter of favourites such as Deadly 60, Expedition with Steve Backshall, Undiscovered Worlds and Blue Planet Live will take the public on an enthralling journey into the world of venom in an event organised by Bangor University as part of Bangor Science Festival, which takes place throughout the month of March.

Tickets for the FREE event, which will take place on Wednesday 20th March between 5.30-6.30pm, will be available from the Pontio website and ticket line from Friday, 23 February at 1pm. The event is suitable for all ages.

With his characteristic flair and passion, the BAFTA award-winner, honorary degree holder and honorary senior lecturer at Bangor University, will delve into the mysteries behind the formidable toxins wielded by some of the world’s most intriguing creatures, from venomous snakes and spiders to the deadliest marine organisms.

Steve will explore the evolutionary significance of venom, uncovering how these potent concoctions have evolved as ingenious tools for survival. The best-selling author will use his own experiences to unravel the science behind the complex chemistry of venom and explain what makes these toxins so formidable, and the vital role they play in the natural world.

Professor Oliver Turnbull, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Bangor University with responsibility for sustainability, said,

“It’s our great pleasure to welcome Steve Backshall back to Bangor University and offer the public this rare opportunity to hear him speak in North Wales, on the fascinating topic of venom! Many of us will have seen Steve on the screen, getting up close and personal with some truly terrifying creatures, so I’m sure he will have some amazing stories to tell – please come along to Pontio for this very special event.”

Tickets are available from the Pontio website: www.pontio.co.uk or by phoning 01248 38 28 28 from 1pm Friday 23 February.
