Following the huge success of last weekend’s Newport Food Festival, the city is now gearing up for a packed programme of festive fun as part of Festive Newport.

Partners including Newport City Council, Newport Now BID, Friars Walk, Newport Live, Newport Market, Newport Bus and Kingsway have joined forces to create a vibrant line-up of entertainment, activities and shopping experiences to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

    This year’s highlights include:

    • The much-loved Countdown to Christmas event, featuring the city’s light switch-on, live music, special guests, funfair rides and a spectacular firework display.

    • The return of Winter Wonderland with a real ice rink, food stalls and fairground attractions.

    • Santa’s Workshops for children and families to enjoy.

    • A City Centre Christmas Market offering gifts, food and drink, open seven days a week.

    • The Riverfront Theatre’s pantomime Rapunzel, celebrating 20 years of panto magic at the venue.

    • Christmas events, markets and competitions throughout the Kingsway Centre.

    • Themed events at Newport Market, including a Grinch Tasting Movie Night.

    • Free festive arts, crafts and music sessions at Newport Museum and Art Gallery.

    • A celebration of small and independent traders as part of Small Business Saturday.

Councillor Emma Corten, Cabinet Member for Culture and Communications, said:
“We’re super excited to kick off this year’s Festive Newport programme with next month’s spectacular Countdown to Christmas event.

“We’ve got loads planned right into the new year – we’re just finalising the finer details, so keep an eye on our social channels over the coming days and weeks for updates on all the exciting events and activities to come.”

With plenty of opportunities to shop, eat, and celebrate locally, Festive Newport promises to make this Christmas season one to remember.
