First-ever New Year’s Day Swim at Lido Ponty announced

Lido Ponty

The first-ever New Year’s Day Swim at the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, will be held on Saturday, January 1.

The 2021 season was an incredible success for the Lido, with over 98,500 visitors being welcomed – making it the busiest season since re-opening in 2015, despite the limitations on visitor numbers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier this month, the Council announced the return of the hugely-popular Boxing Day Swim, and tickets sold out within minutes. In order to give residents another opportunity to enjoy a festive swim, the Council will now be hosting the inaugural New Year’s Day Swim.

Tickets for the event will be priced at £3.50 (free for those aged 5 and under) but, unlike the Boxing Day Swim, there will be NO catering on site, although visitors are welcome to bring a drink with them for when they exit the facility.

A further update on the release of tickets will be issued by the Council shortly.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “I am pleased to be able to confirm that the very first New Year’s Day Swim will be held at the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty.

“The 2021 season has proven to be an enormous success, with over 98,500 people visiting the facility, even in spite of the public health restrictions to limit the spread of COVID-19, and it is great to have seen so many supporting the Lido after the significant damage sustained during Storm Dennis.

“I would once again like to give my thanks to all of the staff who have agreed to work on both Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and for all of their hard work throughout the year in ensuring that those who did visit could enjoy the fantastic facilities in a safe manner.”
