New artist impressions have been released to show how Swansea’s Castle Square will look once its makeover is complete.

The images show a greener, more vibrant space at the heart of the city centre – packed with new trees, lawns, seating areas and spaces for people to meet, relax and enjoy events.

Swansea Council is behind the square’s transformation, with contractor Knights Brown currently on site carrying out enabling works.

The new Castle Square will feature:

    • More than 40% of the space landscaped with greenery, trees and planting
    • Two new pavilion-style buildings for cafés, restaurants or retail
    • A green-roof terrace with public access
    • Interactive water features, including playful mini fountains
    • A bandstand-style stage topped with a large screen for public events
    • New seating areas, upgraded paving and improved accessibility

The revamped Castle Square is expected to be completed by late 2026.

Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: “These new images give us the clearest view yet of the greener, more welcoming Castle Square we’re creating for Swansea.

“For years, people have told us they want to see more greenery, more activity and more reasons to spend time in the square – and this transformation will deliver just that.

“It will bring more life back into the heart of the city centre, support our local businesses and create a place for events, relaxation and community spirit.

“The new-look square will enhance Swansea’s identity as a modern, green city centre while still respecting its history.

“With work now moving forward, residents and visitors can look forward to a transformed square that is set to become the beating heart of Swansea once again.”

The new images will soon be included on hoardings around the Castle Square site.

Businesses in the area of the square remain open throughout the improvement works.
