Fishguard Festival of Music announces top acts for 2024

This year’s festival reverts to its traditional date in July and will take place from July 18 to 31 2024 at venues across Pembrokeshire.

Ahead of its official launch next month, Fishguard Festival of Music has announced that some of the finest Celtic musicians on the music circuit have confirmed their attendance at this year’s festival.

Welsh Harpist Catrin Finch and Ireland’s fiddle virtuoso Aoife Ní Bhriain, will perform music from their acclaimed debut album at a concert in Bethel Chapel, Fishguard on Wednesday 31 July.

Dublin native Aoife Ní Bhriain is one of her generation’s most versatile and gifted violinists, a dazzling musician who commands both the classical world and her Irish traditional heritage. Harpist Catrin Finch has also built an impressive classical career and ventured into uncharted musical territory, most notably through her international award-winning collaborations. Double You, their debut album as a duo, features an exquisite collection of new compositions that draw inspiration from various genres, taking listeners on a captivating journey of music inspired by the cultures of their home countries.

Two-time winners of Best Album at the Welsh Folk Awards VRï will perform at Theatr Gwaun on Tuesday 30 July.  VRï ‘s performers (Jordan Price Williams (cello, voice), Aneirin Jones (violin, voice) and Patrick Rimes (viola, violin, voice) are inspired by the incredible story of a time when Wales’ traditional music and dance was suppressed by Methodist chapels, and, earlier, its language by the Act of Union, VRï shed new light on a vibrant folk tradition that harnesses the raw energy of the fiddle with the finesse of the violin, and the beauty of chamber music with the joy and hedonism of a pub session, all underpinned with powerful vocal harmonies.

Gillian Green MBE, Artistic Director of the Fishguard Festival of Music, said:
“I am delighted that these acclaimed musicians have confirmed attendance at this year’s festival. They represent the very best of contemporary Welsh and Irish music.
Both concerts will be spellbinding collaborations between musical powerhouses and will complement the classical music offering elsewhere in the festival programme.”
Tickets for both concerts will go on sale when the Fishguard Festival officially launches its full programme on April 15.  Visitwww.fishguardmusicfestival.com for more details.
