Glamorgan meet the students of Cardiff MCCU in a three-day friendly at The SSE SWALEC starting on Friday, April 13th at 11 a.m. (Gates open – 10 a.m.)

The Welsh county complete their preparations ahead of the start of the Championship season against Gloucestershire at Bristol on April 19th with a match against the student team, drawn from the Universities of Cardiff, Glamorgan and Cardiff Met. The game – unlike others in the past few years – is not a first-class game as the students have already completed their quota of first-class matches.

Under the ECB playing regulations, only their first two matches are considered as first-class, with their opening encounter over the Easter Bank Holiday in Bristol ending in a draw with Gloucestershire whilst their second contest last weekend, against Hampshire at The Ageas Bowl, also ended in a rain-affected draw.

Glamorgan have met the students on nine previous occasions in three-day friendlies between 2001 and 2011 at the Sophia Gardens ground, with the Welsh county winning the most recent contest by 281 runs as Cardiff MCCU were dismissed for 46 with seam bowler Huw Waters claiming 5/6. The Glamorgan batsmen also had a field day in the drawn contest back in 2004 with Michael Powell posting in imperious 201, whilst David Hemp made 138.

Please note that the hours of play for this game on Friday and Saturday are 11.00 am to 6.30 pm, with lunch at 1.15 pm and tea at 4.10 pm. On Sunday, lunch will be taken at 1.00 pm, with tea at 3.40 pm, whilst the close of play will be at approx. 6 pm, with a minimum of 20 overs to be bowled in the final hour which starts at 5 pm.
