195 Welsh products have received awards from the world’s leading food and drink accreditation scheme.

The Guild of Fine Food proudly announced the exceptional Welsh winners of the Great Taste Awards 2023 this August. These accolades celebrate the remarkable achievements of artisans in the realm of fine food and drink.

In a global showcase of culinary excellence, the Great Taste Awards, the world’s foremost food and drink accreditation scheme based exclusively on taste, unveiled the outstanding achievements of Welsh producers.

After an arduous evaluation process involving more than 500 expert judges and spanning 109 countries, Welsh products emerged as some of the brightest stars, garnering a total of 195 Great Taste awards. These include 10 products achieving the prestigious 3-star rating, 63 products awarded 2-stars, and 122 products recognised with 1-star.

Welsh Government Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd, Lesley Griffiths, said: “Congratulations to all the Welsh companies on their achievements in this year’s Great Taste Awards.

Wales has some of the best food a drink in the world and I am pleased to see an increase in the number of awards going to Welsh businesses which demonstrates their passion and commitment to make fantastic products.”

Among the extraordinary Welsh products awarded 3 stars are:

    • Antur Brew Co – New Alt
    • Bay Coffee Roasters – Papua New Guinea
    • Black Mountain Smokery Ltd – Smoked Chicken Breast
    • Black Welsh Lamb – Black Welsh Lamb – Pedigree, organic, pasture-fed hogget leg
    • Brecon Chocolates – Whisky and Pecan Praline
    • Caws Teifi Cheese – Gwyn Bach
    • Celtic Spirit Company – Christmas Pwd Liqueur
    • Mountain Produce – Cold Pressed Sunflower Dressing Oil
    • The Wye Valley Meadery – Wye Valley Meadery Traditional Mead
    • Vale Of Glamorgan Brewery Ltd – VOG Jackson’s Black Oyster Shell IPA

Recognised as a badge of excellence, Great Taste Awards are actively sought after by food enthusiasts and retailers alike. These awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, prioritise taste above all else. Every product is subjected to blind tasting by a panel of judges, ensuring impartiality and transparency in the evaluation process.

The remarkable recognition of these products demonstrates their exceptional quality and flavour, representing the pinnacle of culinary achievement.

John Farrand, managing director at the Guild of Fine Food said:

“Every year, we welcome new and established producers making fantastic products around the world, and this year has been no exception. The breadth and quality of food and drink have been outstanding, and we wish everyone who entered huge success and hope they find the feedback from our expert judging panel beneficial as they continue in their onward journey.”

These Great Taste award-winners can now proudly display the iconic black and gold Great Taste logo as a symbol of their outstanding quality. The awards denote 1-star, 2-star, or 3-star ratings and their recognition in the year 2023.

The excitement of Great Taste 2023 doesn’t end here. All 3-star-winning products are further assessed to determine the Golden Fork trophy winners and the 2023 Supreme Champion. These prestigious titles will be unveiled at the Great Taste Golden Fork Ceremony on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Battersea Arts Centre (trade event only).
