Merthyr Tydfil Council is about to commence work on a series of walking and cycling improvement projects as part of its Welsh Government-funded Active Travel programme.
Monday 15 November will see the start of work on:
- Upgrading the existing crossing point on Victoria Street to a zebra crossing – this will take until Christmas to complete.
- A shared route for pedestrians and cyclists running alongside Bethesda Street – this will take until 31 March 2022.
- A shared route for pedestrians and cyclists running alongside Avenue de Clichy from Caedraw roundabout up to the gyratory system (31 March).
- Work will begin on the following in January 2022:
- Improvements at the Tesco roundabout to make crossing the road safer for pedestrians – this will take until mid-February.
In mid-February, we will be:
- Introducing a signalised crossing point on Lower High Street between the car park and the shops (until 31 March).
Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Housing and Commercialisation Cllr Geraint Thomas said: “It’s fantastic that we’ve obtained Welsh Government funding to deliver these improvements for pedestrians and cyclists in the town centre. So please bear with us while the work is ongoing.”
