Neath-based construction firm J.G. Hale Construction has donated £500 worth of provisions and vouchers to Brecon Foodbank – at a time the service has seen an unprecedented increase in demand.

The donation was raised as a result of an onsite initiative which included all of J.G. Hale Construction’s personnel, along with members of the construction company’s supply chain, working at the 32-unit development on Powys County Council’s land north of Heol Ffynnon in Brecon.

The innovative project is Powys County Council’s first affordable housing development for social rent in over 40 years. It comprises a mix of flats and houses and has been commended by members of the BBNPA planning committee for its commitment to providing accessible recreation space and active travel.

Andrew Collins, contracts manager at J.G. Hale Construction, said:

“Handing over the donation to representatives of Brecon food bank was a humbling experience and a great way to end a busy week at the site. We have been told that referrals to this excellent facility have risen during the pandemic, and we hope that our donations will go some way to assisting families in need.”

David Harrhy, managing director of J.G. Hale Construction, added:

“We are delighted to be working with Powys County Council on what is an innovative and forward-thinking scheme that will make a big difference to the local community.

“Giving something back to the communities in which we work is an important part of J.G Hale Construction’s ethos. This, as well as the local employment opportunities we offer at all our sites, demonstrates this. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those working at the site and in our supply chain who supported this very worthwhile cause.”
