RCT Council has started a community consultation asking residents for their views about new proposals, to introduce road safety measures and improved active travel routes at Crown Hill in Llantwit Fardre.
Important funding has been secured from Welsh Government for the future Maesybryn Safer Routes in the Community scheme. It will develop and introduce measures along Crown Hill, including upgrades to existing pedestrian facilities. The scheme is in an area where many pupils and families cross the main road while walking to the local primary school.
Proposals for the scheme include introducing a raised zebra crossing near Crown Hill’s junction with Hillside Court and additional traffic calming measures.
Residents who live locally have received letters outlining the proposals and asking for their feedback.
The consultation is now underway, and closes on Friday, November 11. All feedback received will be considered and will inform the scheme’s design.
Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Investment, said: “I welcome Welsh Government’s continued support through its Safer Routes in the Community funding. In recent years it helped to deliver road safety schemes in the communities of Llwynypia and Abercynon two years ago, in Llantrisant and Cilfynydd last year, and most-recently in Ton Pentre. I’m pleased that 90% of project funding is secured for a future scheme in Llantwit Fardre.
“Officers have brought forward key proposals which target road safety improvements and improved active travel facilities along Crown Hill, including a formal raised crossing point. This is at a busy location where pedestrians cross the main road, particularly families walking to and from Maesybryn Primary School. The purpose of the consultation is to find out residents’ views about the proposals.
“This is an important opportunity for residents in Llantwit Fardre to have their say and shape the future scheme. I urge all interested residents to take part in the three-week consultation ending on November 11.”
