Restoration work is continuing on the historic Laboratory Building at Swansea’s Hafod Morfa Copperworks site, with another major construction milestone now completed.
The Swansea Council led project, which is being delivered by John Weaver Contractors, has reached the stage where new floors are being installed inside the building.
When restoration began in late 2024, the original floors had already been lost.
The work forms part of wider plans to regenerate the Lower Swansea Valley and is being supported through the UK Government’s Local Regeneration Fund.
Council leader Rob Stewart said: “We’re bringing this historic building back into use and it’s great to see the floors going in and the building coming back to life.”
The Laboratory Building, which stands next to Penderyn Whisky’s Landore site, could eventually become a restaurant, although other future uses remain under consideration.
In recent months, contractors have been carrying out careful repairs and enhancements to the structure, with a new Welsh slate roof due to be installed as the next stage of the project.
The restoration is expected to be completed later this year, after which the building will be ready to be fitted out by a future occupier.
The Laboratory Building was once an important part of the world famous copperworks that helped establish Swansea’s reputation as a global centre of industry.
