Hundreds expected to enter ballot for Gower beach huts

Swansea Council is gearing up to make one of the most important annual draws for one of its treasured assets.

The instantly recognisable green and white Edwardian beach huts at Langland Bay are set to be allocated to lucky residents through a random draw, which will take place in March this year.

Residents living in Swansea can now apply online for one of the 57 available huts, providing them with a prime view of one of Gower’s picturesque bays.

Rental options including three, four, six, ten and twelve-month tenancy agreements starting from April 2024.

Applications for the much sought after beach huts ends on February 2 and every year hundreds put in bids through the ballot.

Robert Francis Davies, Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said: “Our iconic beach huts at Langland have been a fixture at the bay for decades.

“The popularity of them means we have to carry out a draw each year so we can allocate the huts in a fair way.

“Lucky applicants will be able to choose from a variety of rental periods and we will let applicants know in March if they have been successful.”

Cllr Francis-Davies added: “Langland Bay is very popular with residents and visitors throughout the year and especially in the summer months. The previous investment to rebuild the seawall along with the ‘smoke-free beach’ designation are part of our continued efforts to make the bay an enjoyable visit.”

The closing date for application for a beach hut is on February 2 at 12 noon. https://www.swansea.gov.uk/langlandhuts
