Insurance broker Gallagher today announces the appointment of Clive Smith as Managing Director of its corporate team in Wales.

In this newly-created role, Clive will be responsible for leading a 30-strong team of insurance specialists across Gallagher’s Cardiff and Llantrisant offices, who advise mid-to-large corporate businesses on their risk and insurance requirements. He will also focus on growing Gallagher’s client base across Wales and the surrounding area.

With over 30 years’ insurance industry experience, Clive has held a range of senior appointments both in the UK and overseas, with periods spent in South Africa, the US and Bermuda.

Gallagher has a sizeable presence in South Wales, with 170 insurance professionals based in the broker’s Llantrisant and Cardiff branches, who support organisations across a variety of industries with their risk management and insurance needs, from small-to-medium enterprises through to large multinational companies.

Commenting on his appointment, Clive said: “Wales is home to a growing number of businesses across a diverse range of industries – with a strong representation in the manufacturing, technology, and energy and environment sectors. Faced with increasingly complex contractual, supply chain, and operational risks, mid-to-large corporates require a bespoke approach to insurance and risk management – and by working with a specialist broker, they can be confident they have the right insurance in place, so that they can continue to focus on running their business.

“I’m proud to call Wales home, and so I’m delighted to be joining an insurance broker which has such a well-established presence here, and leading a fantastic corporate team. To further build on our expertise, we are planning to recruit several new account executives in the coming months, who will focus on nurturing and developing new and existing client relationships.”

Mike Jones, Regional Managing Director for Wales, added: “Clive brings with him an excellent reputation within the insurance industry, as well as a wealth of knowledge of the specialist risks faced by our corporate clients and a thorough understanding of the local market, so I am very pleased that he is taking on this important leadership position for our region.

“This senior appointment is a clear demonstration of our strategy to invest in industry-leading talent to service our clients and to build on the positive momentum and growth we have enjoyed in Wales in recent years.”
