Is The Alchemist the best kept foodie secret in Cardiff?

A year since opening in Cardiff, The Alchemist has quickly become one of the most popular cocktail venues in the city.

Located on St Mary Street, The Alchemist is best-known for its show stopping drinks, mixology craft and gothic-esk interior. If you’ve visited the bar before or have glanced at their social media posts (or your friends), you’ll see the drinks made famous by their use of dry ice and outlandish glasses.

What you may not have realised, is that The Alchemist is in fact a restaurant, as well as a bar. It has enough space for 70 covers, which is accessed through a small walkway to the right.

This is what you can expect

They serve everything from breakfast, sides, sharers, wraps and full large plates.

They serve breakfast and brunch (including waffles with maple syrup, steak, poached eggs), with plenty of veggie options, including a personal favourite of dippy egg and soldiers. For the main event, enjoy jerk chicken, tandoori seabass fillets, premium steaks and smoking fajitas.

The Jerk Chicken – 12 hour marinated on the bone with rice, peas & dumplings

The menu also features a whole host of burger, wraps, sandwiches, coffees, teas and desserts – each with their own signature twist.

Bang Bang Chicken – Asian inspired salad with peanut satay sauce

The dishes that we tried were absolutely delightful, infused full of flavour, they were just as exciting as the magical cocktails that they make. The Alchemist is a chain restaurant and bar, yes, but you wouldn’t realise it. It has some of the tastiest food that we’ve eaten to date in the city.

We of course, couldn’t come and visit without trying some of their cocktails.

The Legal One & Colour Changing are just some of the show stopping cocktails made famous by the venue

The mixologists are second to none. We witnessed, and without hesitation or needing to check formulas or ingredients (we should add), mix-up an array of drinks in the most spectacular fashion.
