This festive season staff at Newport-based Kilsby Williams have been collecting food and essential items for their local food banks.

Staff at the tax and accountancy specialist were asked to bring in food and non-food products to add to the collection and all donations will be split between Risca and Newport Foodbanks.

The charity drive which resulted in four boxes of goods for the foodbanks was led by tax manager Lucy Lloyd.

Lucy said: “The festive season can be a very difficult time for many people, especially this year with the cost of living ever rising. My local area runs a weekly ‘Tin on the Wall’ collection which inspired me to run a ‘Tin on Your Desk’ collection where employees were encouraged to bring in their donations.

“My colleagues are extremely generous but very busy and I thought this would be an easy way for everyone to get involved, benefitting many food bank users over the coming weeks.

“This is the first time we’ve run a collection like this. However, due to the number of donations we received, we want to run it as a quarterly collection from now on as the enthusiasm for it in the office has been fantastic.”

Jonathan Harrhy, Partner at Kilsby Williams, said: “Lucy has done a brilliant job of organising this collection, mobilising staff and getting everyone involved. It was so gratifying to see the donations mount up over the course of the week and we hope that the collection will make a tangible difference to people in Newport and Risca in the run up to Christmas.”

The Salvation Army Risca Foodbank is based at Pontymister at the Salvation Army Headquarters. Food donations can be made in person, at Tesco Extra Risca, or in the local Morrisons or Aldi and cash donations can be made by cheque or balance transfer https://risca.foodbank.org.uk/give-help/donate-money/.

Newport Foodbank is based at the Christchurch Centre on Malpas Road. You can donate money to Newport Foodbank via their JustGiving Page https://www.justgiving.com/newlifetrustnewportfoodbank. Food donations can be made at the main local supermarkets or to the food bank itself.
