In April 2017 Katrina had gone shopping for birthday presents with her one-year-old daughter in Llanelli town centre. Four hours later she was fighting for her life on her kitchen floor after a ferocious attack on her.
The 19-year-old had suffered multiple stab wounds including stab wounds to her eyes and died six days later in hospital. Her daughter was found covered in blood at the house.
“She was a normal girl, going about her normal day, a young mum with a young daughter. The case was difficult and emotional. The injuries were horrific, like I’ve never seen before. It was very upsetting” says Detective Sergeant Kim Harries in tonight’s programme.
Boyfriend Dylan Harries, a 22-year-old from Felinfoel in Llanelli, was arrested on suspicion of murder but he denied any wrongdoing.
Dyfed Powys Police have now spoken out about the horrific case and revealed how they proved their case against Dylan Harries. They retraced Dylan Harries’ movements on CCTV and established a motive after digital forensic work on his phone.
“He was a very jealous, controlling person. And that drove him to a fit of jealous rage” explains Det Sergeant Kim Harries.
But the detailed forensic work on her injuries proved crucial for the investigation.

“We instructed a forensic odontologist to look at a bite mark on Katrina’s arm as well as a cast of Dylan Harries’ teeth. And his opinion was that it was conclusive that the bite mark had been made by him” adds Detective Chief Inspector Ifan Charles.
Dylan Harries was found guilty of murder in October 2017 and given a life sentence with a minimum of 27 years. But it was a difficult case for the investigation team as Det Chief Inspector Ifan Charles explains.
“There are no winners when it comes to a murder investigation, you have a 19 year old woman, Katrina Evemy who has tragically died, a daughter who won’t have a mother for the rest of her life and then Dylan Harries, had his life ahead of him but made a terrible decision that day.
“But I think at least now Katrina’s family have some closure knowing that Dylan Harries has received justice for what he did”
