Local hero 11-year-old Lily Price gets festive surprise

This Christmas M&S has called on communities around the UK to nominate their local heroes to receive a surprise festive treat. Community ambassador Lilly Price (11) lives in Porth, Wales, and was nominated in recognition of her outstanding fundraising efforts.

Lilly was nominated by her parents for her compassionate spirit. At just 11 years-old Lilly has taken on amazing fundraising challenges, including running 10 miles for Cancer Research, donating her hair for wigs and hiking the highest peak in Wales, Pen Y Fan, to raise funds for a community defibrillator.

Her parents partnered with M&S for the top secret mission to treat their daughter and transformed their house into a Macaroon grotto, her favourite festive food. Her reaction to the unexpected surprise was filmed by hidden cameras and shared with M&S’s 6.8million social media followers.

Nick Romans, Store Manager at M&S Merthyr, said:

“Around the country there are so many local heroes and it was wonderful to be able to transform Lilly’s home into a Macaroon grotto as a small thank you for her amazing contribution to the community. For someone so young she has taken on amazing challenges and is an inspiration for many. We hope she has a Christmas to remember with loved ones.”

Lilly’s mum, Kelly, added:

“Lilly is just amazing and we’re so proud of what she’s achieved, at such a young age. She’s given so much to the community that we wanted to give her a little extra surprise this Christmas, and it was brilliant to work with M&S and create a Macaroon grotto just for her. Seeing her eyes light up when she walked through the front door is something I will never forget!”
