A NEW-LOOK retail space in the heart of Maesteg is reopening following a £160,000 investment.

Specsavers Maesteg’s partners Brian Borland, Ewan Thomas and Richard Dyson made the six-figure investment to improve the store’s service and increase capacity by revamping the shop floor layout, and adding two new dispensing desks and a dedicated contact lens area.

The newly-renovated store was unveiled to the public on Monday 14 April, with Councillor Chris Davies joining the Specsavers team to welcome visiting members of the community.

‘It’s so positive to see this level of investment in Maesteg,’ says Councillor Chris Davies. ‘Specsavers provides an essential service to the local community and having a modern and welcoming environment only benefits those who use the services the store has to offer. This is a real boost for the town.’

To mark the occasion, the Maesteg team held a charity fundraiser in aid of two local causes – Special Families Maesteg and Caerau Men’s Shed. Cupcakes from independent bakery, Iced, were on sale, raising vital funds for the charities.

Store partners have also pledged to donate £5 from every sight test carried out throughout April to the charities.

Ewan Thomas, optometrist director at Specsavers Maesteg, comments: ‘It’s an incredibly proud moment for us as we unveil our new space. While Specsavers is a well-known, national brand, the stores are locally owned and run so giving back to our communities is really what drives us.

‘We hope everyone – both our staff and customers – who come into the store will benefit from the improvements we’ve made.

‘While we’ve been excited to unveil the store, we couldn’t pass on the opportunity to raise vital funds for two local causes that are very important to us and thank everyone for their generous donations.’
