Work is progressing on the multi-million-pound redevelopment of Maesteg Town Hall, with the full restoration of the clock tower being completed recently.
Knox and Wells, the main contractors working on the regeneration project, are making steady progress, and working to ensure the Grade II listed building retains its original features as well as adding some modern enhancements to aid accessibility.
Construction of the all-new eight-person accessible lift has begun, which will improve visitor experience for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.
The lift will be housed next to the original porch and western entrance, with the porch being rebuilt and a new stone staircase providing access to the main hall.
The lower ground floor is set to become a community space, including a library, heritage centre, digital suite, and café. A second lift will be located back of house within the buildings iconic apse to enable direct access to the main stage and will be used to store and transport heavy items onto the stage for future productions and events.
It is great to see work progressing on this exciting redevelopment project in the heart of Maesteg town centre.

The project is being funded by Bridgend County Borough Council, Welsh Government via the European Regional Development Fund, Valleys Task Force, Community Facilities Programme, Museums, Archives and Libraries Division and CADW. Along with funding secured from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Awen Cultural Trust, Maesteg Town Council, the Garfield Weston Foundation, the Davies Trust and the Pilgrim Trust.
