This week, Councillors of Merthyr Tydfil CBC received the draft budget proposals for the next financial year, 2024/2025.
Based on funding from Welsh Government of £123.2m there is still a shortfall of £12.5m.
In an endeavour to protect as many services as possible, particularly Education and Social Services, an 8% rise in council tax has been advised, along with a minimum of £9.4m in efficiencies and cuts to address the funding gap.
The majority of properties in the local authority are Band A. For residents who live in a Band A property, this would be an increase of £2.24 per week. Please see the list below with information on other Band properties.
Band B properties would see an increase of £2.61 per week.
Band C properties would see an increase of £2.98 per week.
Band D properties would see an increase of £3.36 per week.
Band E properties would see an increase of £4.10 per week.
Band F properties would see an increase of £4.85 per week.
Band G properties would see an increase of £5.59 per week.
Band H properties would see an increase of £6.71 per week.
Band I properties would see an increase of £7.83 per week.
The costs outlined above include the increase from the Police & Crime Commissioner, which is beyond the Council’s control.
The budget will be finalised at a special council meeting scheduled for Wednesday 28 February, 2024.
