Milk & Sugar at the Old Library is launching a weekly, weekend kitchen takeover by chef John Cook

One of the city-centre’s most unique daytime venues is extending its opening hours to offer post-work dinner and drinks, every Friday and Saturday night.

From Saturday 30th March, Llaeth & Siwgr in the old library will play host to a weekly kitchen takeover named ‘EMBER’.

EMBER will offer a fixed menu of four courses for £40pp. The menu will change every month to showcase the best of what’s in season; a separate vegetarian menu will be available for £30pp.

The concept is the brainchild of chef John Cook, previously head-chef and owner of acclaimed Pontcanna restaurant Arbennig.

John’s four-course menu for the first month of EMBER includes sausage broth with creamed white beans, focaccia and olive oil; charcuterie with fermented onion and malt vinegar; 55-day beef sirloin with celeriac, carrot and marmite; and truffled chocolate with bay leaf caramel, hazelnut and cultured cream.

John said, “I have done pop-up events at Llaeth & Siwgr before and absolutely love the space, it’s a great place to cook. When Tim (Corrigan – owner of Milk & Sugar) approached me and asked me if I’d be interested in bringing evening dining to the venue, I jumped at the chance.

I hope that people will enjoy coming to eat my food and enjoy spending the evening in such a beautiful space.”

Tables for EMBER will need to be booked in advance, and are available here.
