The Welsh Government’s Minister for Economy has visited the new modern business unit at Parc Coed-Elái, to meet representatives from the Council and Mallows Family Distillery, and see first-hand the excellent facilities the business unit has provided.

On Monday, August 23, Vaughan Gething MS met with representatives from Mallows, the RCT Council Leader and the Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise Development and Regeneration – for a visit of the recently-completed modern business unit, which was delivered through a Joint Venture project by Welsh Government and the Council.

The project secured £2.58m from the European Regional Development Fund, via the Welsh Government, to deliver the unit. The 30,000 sq ft business unit building, at 3 Parc Coed-Elái (CF39 8FR), sits on a plot of the wider former colliery site at Parc Coed-Elái, which is owned by Welsh Government and earmarked for development in the Local Development Plan.

The business unit, which also contains office accommodation, achieves a positive rating for its low-carbon usage under the established BREEAM assessment criteria.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Leader, Councillor Andrew Morgan, said: “I was pleased to welcome the Minister to see the impressive new modern business unit at Parc Coed-Elai, which has been delivered thanks to a joint venture between the Council and Welsh Government.

“The business unit will no doubt provide Mallows Family Distillery with a first-class facility from which they can expand on the successes they have already achieved in becoming a market leader in the spirits sector, and this partnership will also provide a boost to the local economy here in Rhondda Cynon Taf by creating new jobs.

“Earlier this month, the Council also provided an update on a similar project to develop modern business units at Robertstown in Aberdare, with a number of expressions of interest already received from potential tenants.

“This is again extremely positive and shows that there is a clear demand for modern business infrastructure here in Rhondda Cynon Taf, particularly in our key strategic locations.”

Minister for Economy, Vaughan Gething MS, added: “Creating new jobs is a priority for the Welsh Government. So it was great to visit Parc Coed-Elái today to see how the delivery of this new, modern and high quality business premises has provided the accommodation needed to enable the Mallows Family Distillery to continue its ongoing expansion and growth.

“The multi-million pound investment the Welsh Government has made at the site has opened up opportunities for further development, which will help create new jobs in the area. The site has the potential for a further 300,000 sq ft of much needed business space and I’m pleased that a number of further development proposals are currently being considered.”
