Blustery showers and cooler temperatures are set to dominate the weather across Wales this weekend, as the Easter holidays draw to a close and families prepare for the return to school on Monday.

According to the Met Office, conditions will remain unsettled, with a mix of sunshine and heavy showers expected over the next few days.

Saturday is forecast to start on a wet note, although rain will quickly clear eastwards through the morning. Brighter spells will follow, but these will be accompanied by scattered, blustery showers throughout the day. Some of these showers are likely to be heavy, with a risk of hail and even thunder in places.

It will also feel noticeably chilly for the time of year, with a brisk southwesterly wind and temperatures reaching a maximum of around 11°C.

The unsettled conditions will continue into Saturday night, with further showers moving through. Some of these are expected to remain heavy, again bringing the chance of hail, while overnight temperatures are set to drop to around 3°C.

Sunday will bring a similar picture, with sunny spells interspersed with scattered showers, although these are expected to be less frequent than on Saturday. Winds will remain breezy but should begin to ease later in the day, with temperatures slightly higher at around 12°C.

Looking ahead to the start of the new school week, Monday is expected to continue the pattern of sunshine and showers.

Conditions are then set to turn drier and brighter on Tuesday, before rain arrives later in the day. By Wednesday, wetter and windier weather is forecast to return, although temperatures are expected to edge up slightly.

The mixed conditions mean families making the most of the final days of the Easter break should be prepared for rapidly changing weather, with sunshine quickly giving way to heavy showers at times.
