Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet has approved that 1 September 2026 will be the revised delivery date for Coety Primary School’s extension, which will coincide with the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year.

Following a consultation process, plans were confirmed to increase the school’s capacity from 420 to 525 places for pupils aged four to eleven years, with some of the features of the expansion to include a four-classroom extension, additional facilities such as toilets, cloakrooms and storage space.

A multi-disciplinary design team led by Powell Dobson Architects has been appointed to take forward the concept design through the following design stages, and WSP (UK) Limited has undertaken a transport assessment as well as engaged with the school to develop a school travel plan which will support the planning application process.

“It’s great to see this project progressing and with a completion date on the horizon for staff, pupils, and their families. “This vital investment of just under £2m will ensure that the school can accommodate its rising number of learners and continue to offer the most current, modern educational resources to support learning now and in the years to come.”

Cllr Martyn Jones, Cabinet Member for Education and Youth Services
