A LLANGOLLEN woman is the latest member of the team at the Welsh cancer research charity – Cancer Research Wales.

Nicole Quirk has been appointed as the independent charity’s fundraising manager for North Wales.

In her new role, Nicole is responsible for helping local organisations such as businesses, schools, sports clubs and individuals to support Cancer Research Wales by fundraising.

Commenting on her appointment, Nicole said:

“As with most people unfortunately I’ve known friends and family who have been affected by cancer. My main reasoning for joining Cancer Research Wales is to work for a charity that is part of and gives back to my local community.”

Nicole is an experienced fundraiser who has previously worked for charities including the British Heart Foundation and has her sights set on raising public awareness of Cancer Research Wales as she explained:

“I want to boost Cancer Research Wales’s profile in North Wales as most people are not aware that we’re an independent Welsh charity which isn’t connected to any other cancer charities. Cancer Research Wales also invests all its research funding here in Wales and is currently funding £1.8 million of research projects at Bangor University. We also opened three shops in North Wales – in Bangor, Llandudno and Wrexham last year and we’re opening a fourth one in Caernarfon on 15 March, so it’s an exciting time to be joining the charity.”

Nicole’s work will see her travelling across North Wales, but she is usually based at the Cancer Research Wales shop at 5 Priory Street in Wrexham.

“We’ve got some great events happening in North Wales that local people can take part in, such as the Black Diamond Yr Wyddfa | Snowdon24 2025 endurance event and the Wrexham 10K, but you don’t have to be a runner to get involved with Cancer Research Wales – there are lots of other ways to support our work”, said Nicole.

“I’m always happy to meet supporters at any of our North Wales stores, so if you’re a local business person or an individual and you want to meet to discuss fundraising ideas, please contact me on my email address –[email protected]”
