New parking arrangements in Aberdare and Pontypridd from June

RCT Council has confirmed its arrangements for parking charges in Aberdare and Pontypridd from June 1 – remaining FREE after 3pm on weekdays, after 10am on Saturdays and all day on Sundays.

Parking charges in the two towns have been suspended at key points during the pandemic – aimed at helping the local economy, supporting residents to access essential town centre businesses and recognising the limited public transport availability, at times when COVID-19 cases were increasing.

Parking has remained free in Aberdare and Pontypridd since October 2020, throughout the ‘second wave’ of the pandemic. The Council has announced that it will resume parking charges from Tuesday, June 1. However, existing time periods for the charges (8am-6pm on Mondays to Saturdays) will be reduced to 8am-3pm on Mondays to Fridays, and 8am-10am on Saturdays.

This means that parking will be free from 3pm on weekdays and after 10am on Saturdays on a permanent basis from June 1, 2021 – along with all-day on Sundays and on Bank Holidays, as has always been the case.

Council car parks in Aberdare include Crown Buildings, Library, Green Street, Duke Street, High Street, Nant Row, Rock Grounds and the Sobell site (the Ynys). In Pontypridd, they are located at Gas Road, Goods Yard (Council-owned section only), Millfield, Berw Road and Sardis Road.

Please note that parking at some locations – Library, Green Street, Duke Street and High Street car parks in Aberdare, and Gas Road car park in Pontypridd – are short-stay only, for a maximum period of four hours.
