he Great Council Bake Off returned to Milford Haven Youth Centre for the tastiest annual competition of the year.
Milford Haven Youth Council organise the annual event that mixes together young people and decision makers in teams and create their best bake to present to a panel of judges.
Seven teams took on the challenge on 27 August, cooking up some delicious cakes that were judged by Pembrokeshire County Council Leader Cllr Tessa Hodgson, Chairman Cllr Delme Harries, Henry Tuffnell MP and Kath O’Kane from the Children Commissioner for Wales office.
The event is all about fun, collaboration and meaningful youth engagement with a layer of competition and after some serious taste testing the winners were Melissa from EYPOP (Care Experienced Youth Forum) with Chris Frey-Davies, Head of Children’s’ Services at Pembrokeshire County Council.
Also taking part were Evelyn from Pembrokeshire Junior Safeguarding with Cllr Marc Tierney, Cabinet Member Young People and Wellbeing of Future Generations, Archie from EHE Youth Club with Susie Lees from Education Welfare Service, Amy from Off the Streets Youth Forum and David Walker, Youth Support Team Manager, Rebecca from Pembrokeshire Youth Assembly with Cara Huggins, Safeguarding Education Manager, Alysha from Young Voices for Choices and Rachael, a Community Youth Worker and Izzy from Milford Haven Youth Council with Cllr Eddie Davies from Milford Haven Town Council.
Nadine Farmer, Children and Young People’s Rights Officer said: “The Bake Off has become an increasingly popular even that helps break down barriers and build trust between generation, with lasting links often made between young people and councillors.
“It is not just about the cake but also the connections that can be made, it helps young people feel heard and valued while providing others with an important insight into what matters to them. We’re so proud of everyone who took part.”
Pembrokeshire County Council Leader Cllr Tessa Hodgson added: “It was a great pleasure to join the Great Council Bake Off and all the teams did a fantastic job, judging the cakes was a delicious but also difficult task. Congratulations to all involved.”
