New traffic arrangements for Pontypridd bingo hall project from July

There will be a series of changes to the traffic management arrangements around the Pontypridd bingo hall site from the beginning of July. These will be carefully managed to maintain traffic flow, particularly at peak times.

Work started in February 2024 to redevelop the site into a vibrant public realm space, and to accommodate new bus bays to serve the southern end of the town centre. The scheme is on course for completion this summer as planned.

Since the early stages of the scheme, the southbound lane closest to the former bingo hall site has remained closed to facilitate work activity. However, at the start of July 2024, the traffic arrangements will be adjusted as follows:

    • Monday, July 1 (around two weeks) – the left-hand southbound lane nearest the work site will reopen, and the right-hand southbound lane will close – with the right turn to Graig becoming unavailable. Motorists should divert via Sainsbury’s Roundabout and take the left turn to Graig from Broadway (A4058). The traffic island opposite the work site will also close. Pedestrians should use the crossing point at Sardis House.
    • Tuesday and Wednesday, July 2-3 (8am to 3pm) – the right-hand northbound lane will temporarily close, to remove two streetlights, and to remove and install permitter balustrade. This lane closure has been scheduled to avoid the late afternoon/early evening peak travel time.
    • Monday to Thursday, July 8-11 – the existing four-way traffic lights at the junction near the bingo hall site will be replicated with temporary four-way traffic lights. This will enable the reinstallation of the existing traffic signals at the junction while cabling work will also be completed.

Additional traffic management will be required towards the end of July, which will be communicated once arrangements are finalised.
