Newbridge Leisure Centre’s swimming pool is temporarily closed to the public until 17th July to allow a programme of essential improvement works to be carried out.

The closure follows the recent failure of the pools heating system and provides an opportunity to bring forward a number of planned maintenance and upgrade projects while the facility is out of use.

Works will include repairs and upgrades to pool tiling, the upgrade of the heat exchanger, the installation of new boilers and a range of general improvement works designed to enhance the long-term reliability and efficiency of the facility.

The works support the Council’s Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2019-2029, which aims to provide high-quality, sustainable leisure facilities that encourage more residents to be active.

By combining these projects into a single closure period, Caerphilly County Borough Council aims to minimise future disruption and complete as much work as possible while the pool is unavailable.

To help maintain swimming opportunities during the closure, Cefn Fforest Leisure Centre will extend its opening hours from Thursday 18th June, providing increased public swimming opportunities while continuing to accommodate school swimming lessons.

The temporary swimming timetable for Cefn Fforest Leisure Centre can be viewed here.

During the closure period, the former weights room at Cefn Fforest Leisure Centre will also be adapted to provide additional accessible changing facilities in response to increasing demand from customers requiring accessible provision.

Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Sport and Leisure, said:
“These essential works will improve the long-term reliability and efficiency of the pool while also allowing us to enhance accessibility within the facility. We appreciate customers’ patience during the closure and look forward to welcoming them back once the improvements are complete.”

Customers are encouraged to check the Leisure Lifestyle social media channels for the latest updates throughout the closure period.
