One-off ‘Friday Night Market’ at historic indoor market

The popular ‘Night Market’ at Cardiff’s historic indoor market will return for a one-off Friday-night event, complete with live music and an eclectic range of independent traders.

Part of ‘City of Arcades’ week, which will see more than thirty-five events taking place across Cardiff’s seven iconic Victorian and Edwardian arcades, the event from 6pm-9pm on November 4th will be the first ‘Night Market’ to take place on a Friday night.

Louise Thomas, the market manager, said: “It’s exciting opening up on a Friday night for the first time. With the music, all the amazing food stalls and the quirky retailers we’ve got here it should be quite a night.

“We’re still putting the finishing touches to the plans but we’re hoping most of the stallholders will be staying open and we’ll see lots of people coming in to pick up a bite to eat, do some late-night shopping and soak up the atmosphere.

“The events we’ve run in the past have been really popular and we were hoping to run more over the summer, but the timing hasn’t quite been right, so it’s good to be back.”

The market is one of Cardiff’s most iconic landmark buildings. Grade II*-listed, it was opened in May 1891 and is located on the site of what was a former farmers’ market and also Cardiff jail, where the Merthyr Uprising martyr Dic Penderyn was hanged in 1831.
