A strong Pembrokeshire contingent will lead Wales to the Homeless World Cup in Norway this week, led by a Pembrokeshire County Council Officer who knows a thing or two about representing her country.

Jo Price, a Community Regeneration Officer with the Council, is a former Wales and Arsenal goalkeeper and is now very proud manager of the Wales Women’s Street Football Team as a part of Street Football Wales..

The team is setting off for Oslo to join 48 nations and more than 500 players for the 20th edition of the tournament and will wear the same famous kit worn by Wales Women at this summer’s European Championship.

The team train at the Hive, Haverfordwest, and a five-strong Pembrokeshire line-up will make up the backbone of the side, including Co-Captains Tor Planner and Marie Tilley.

Jo said she was so proud of the team who have all faced challenges in their lives but have been brought together by football and the opportunities that sport provides.

“Football gave me incredible opportunities and this is a chance for me to give back,” Jo said.

“I’m extremely proud to be part of something that can help change people’s lives for the better.

“We speak about and celebrate the opportunities that it brings to the players, equally, it brings me so much joy to watch it all unfold.

“We as a coaching group have been working hard with the players to become the best version of themselves both on and off the field, they are a fantastic group of women who should be very proud of their achievements.”

Anji Tinley, Manager at the Garth Youth & Community Project and County Councillor for the Garth ward of Haverfordwest, will be joining the team in Norway as well-being officer.

Anji said: “I can hardly contain my pride in what these remarkable women have accomplished.

“It has been an absolute privilege hosting this team on our 4G street football court at Hive and it has been an honour to be part of this incredible team.

“They have faced challenges head-on, supported one another and created an environment that fosters both personal and team growth.

“I want them to know how much they inspire me week in week out. Together we are not just playing football, we are building a legacy.”

Clare Mantripp, a Social Worker with the Council is also part of the team on the plane to Oslo and has been a member of Street Football Wales for three years.

The Homeless World Cup kicks off on Saturday August 23rd and runs through to Saturday August 30th.
