Conor Elliott is a talented Photographer based in Cardiff.  During lockdown, he wanted to do something to capture the sense of community spirit and appreciation of NHS workers.

Over the course of three months, from March to June 2020, Conor walked the streets of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan photographing the artworks that local residents proudly displayed in their windows in support of the NHS.

Conor decided to bring the images together in the form of colourful mosaics.  The large mosaics are made from hundreds of rainbows and other supportive messages for NHS staff that have been displayed in windows throughout Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Conor’s ‘Thank You’ works are a heartfelt attempt to show the gratitude and support to NHS workers from the local community they so bravely serve, particularly during the challenging times posed by the Coronavirus pandemic.

To emphasise the community aspect of the project, the source pictures were chosen from a collection of window art. The image displayed at University Hospital Llandough was drawn by Leigharne Phillips of Penarth and the image at Barry Hospital was drawn by Lisa Bennett and Nerys Fletcher-Bennett of Barry.

Both images beautifully capture the sentiments shown to NHS staff during the pandemic.

It is hoped that with these images displayed at Barry Hospital and University Hospital Llandough, they will act as a permanent reminder to NHS staff of the gratitude and support they have within their surrounding communities.

This project was supported by Cardiff & Vale Health Charity.
