Premier Forest Group, one of the UK’s fastest growing timber groups, has been recognised with a special award at this year’s Fast Growth 50 event in Cardiff.

The Fast Growth 50 is in its 20th year of celebrating the fastest growing firms in Wales. The awards, established by Professor Dylan Jones-Evans in 1999 use sales as the main indicator, looking at a business’ percentage increase in turnover over three accounting periods.

This year, the awards acknowledged ‘super growth’ firms for the first time. These are companies whose turnover has surpassed £100m since they first appeared on the list.

Only ten firms that have made the Fast Growth 50 list in the past twenty years have passed the critical £100m mark, and Premier Forest Group is one of them.

Terry Edgell, CEO and co-founder of Premier Forest Group, said:

“To pass £100m turnover was a goal of ours for a number of years and to be recognised for passing this significant milestone is very rewarding. To be on the stage with household brands like Admiral and GoCompare was a real honour and showed us just how far Premier Forest Group has come.”

    Professor Dylan Jones-Evans said:

“When I first established Fast Growth 50 it was to celebrate companies like Premier Forest Group who prove that you can set up, run, and grow hugely successful businesses right here in Wales. What Premier Forest has achieved is testament to a lot of hard work and a successful business strategy.”

Established in Newport in 1993 by founding directors Dilwyn Howells, Nigel Williams and Terry Edgell, Premier Forest Group is now one of the UK’s leading independent importers, manufacturers and distributors of timber and panel products.

The business began as Premier Forest Products Ltd, set up when the founders recognised that there was a gap in the market and has recorded phenomenal growth. Since 2011, the vertically-integrated timber group’s turnover has grown from £53m to a projected £136m in the current financial year.

Premier Forest Group currently operates across 15 sites in the UK and Ireland and comprises sawmilling, processing, importation and timber distribution businesses.

Other brands within the Premier Forest Group based in Wales include timber importer Premier Forest Products in Newport Docks, which also became the home to Premier Processing & Fabrication and hardwood and softwood specialist Clarks Wood. The group’s Welsh sawmill operation Premier Sawmilling and its outlet store Mill Timber Direct are based In Croespenmaen, South Wales.

Outside of Wales other brands within the group include Duchy Timber in Cornwall, Premier Forest Doncaster, Premier Goldberg near Heathrow and the Irish brands of the multi-site Brooks Timber and Builders Supplies Ltd and Dublin Plywood and Veneers Ltd.
