Principality Cardiff Half Marathon on verge of sellout

Principality Cardiff Half Marathon

Runners planning on taking part in the Principality Cardiff Half Marathon need to act fast if they haven’t yet entered, as general entries are near to selling out.

The 2024 Cardiff Half on Sunday 6 October has almost reached capacity, with over 80% of spaces taken within just three months of going on sale and only 3,000 general entries remaining.

The race is extremely popular among those looking to run their first half, chase a PB or fundraise for charity. And with spectacular landmarks, live entertainment and supporter cheer points throughout the course, it is a race to remember, with many runners coming back time and again.

Matt Newman, Chief Executive at event organisers Run 4 Wales, said: “The Principality Cardiff Half Marathon is a superb event with a fantastic atmosphere and has become a staple race in thousands of runners’ calendars.

“The Cardiff Half is becoming increasingly popular with runners around the globe, and since joining the SuperHalf series, we’re seeing more and more runners enter from overseas.

“The event has completely sold out for the past six years and this year’s event looks set to do the same. That’s why we’re urging runners to enter now to avoid disappointment.”

Founded in 2003, when just 1,500 runners took part, the Principality Cardiff Half has become one of Europe’s largest half marathons and is a part of the SuperHalfs – an international series of half marathons including races in Lisbon, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen and Valencia.

Demand from overseas runners taking part has grown to unprecedented levels – with nearly 40,000 people from across the globe now on a journey to complete the six SuperHalfs to earn themselves a coveted SuperMedal.

General entry to the 2024 event costs £48, or for those interested in also taking part in the ABP Newport Wales Marathon on 28 April, they can secure a Welsh Distance Double ticket for £78, saving themselves £22 versus the cost of entering both races individually. Runners affiliated to a running club can also make savings when signing up.

Once entries are sold out, runners are only able to enter via one of the official race charities.
