Residents can have say on new homes proposal in Swansea

Swansea Council is in the early stages of the development of 22 new homes on council-owned land in Ravenhill.

The Council’s chosen housing planning consultants for the scheme – Asbri Planning, have started a pre-planning consultation and are seeking the views of locals about the proposals.

If given the go-ahead, the new homes will include eight one-bedroom apartments, two two-bedroom bungalows, six two-bedroom houses and six three-bedroom homes.

The latest new homes proposal is part of the Council’s wider More Homes programme which has already seen the completion of a number of housing schemes across the city.

Andrea Lewis, Cabinet Member for Service Transformation, said: “These are very early stages in our efforts to create even more council homes in Swansea.

“The pre-planning consultation is an important part of this process and gives local people the chance to comment on our plans ahead of us submitting a planning application.

“We’ve previously made a commitment to increase the number of council homes in Swansea so we can reduce waiting times for people seeking to be housed in communities across the city.

“This latest scheme will assist us in our plans to provide housing for everyone and to introduce new and modern homes that feature modern energy saving technology within them.

“In recent years we have developed an excellent track record for delivering high quality homes, applying our ‘Swansea Standard’ design to our new homes.

“This latest scheme will help continue the excellent work already completed in Swansea.”

The quality of the new homes has also been recognised nationally and in September 2023, the Council won the Best Service Team: Housing, Construction and Building Service at the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Service Awards 2023 – in recognition of its ongoing work to create new, modern, energy efficient homes for families in the city.
