Responses to the consultation on how to spend the money from the sale of the Old County School in Tregaron was considered by the Charity Trustee Committee at its meeting held on Thursday, 29 June 2023.

A public consultation was held between 16 March and 10 May this year asking for suggestions on how to spend the proceeds from the sale of the old County School in Tregaron in accordance with the requirements of the charity, namely ‘to advance the education of pre-school and school-age children in Tregaron’.

Twenty-five responses were received which ranged from the provision of sporting facilities; breakfast and afternoon clubs; nursery provision, day-care during school holidays and educational trips; a multi-purpose building for local youth clubs and activities; a hub for lifeskills and allotment; swimming pool; library resources; support for local clubs; and resurfacing roads within 6 miles of Tregaron, and painting all the houses. Twelve of the responses related to a sporting facility theme such as astro turf, a running track, 3G or 4G pitches.

A sub-group of the Charity Trustee Committee was established to consider the responses to the consultation. The sub-group included representatives from Tregaron Town Council, Ysgol Henry Richard and Cylch Meithrin Tregaron, and they considered the responses during a meeting held on 23 May 2023 and recommended that the Charity Trustee Committee utilise the money towards developing sporting facilities in Tregaron. Further discussions will take place with relevant Officers from Porth Cymorth Cynnar and Schools Services, together with representatives from the sub-group in relation to additional opportunities such as match-funding.

Councillor Keith Evans, Chair of the Charity Trustee Committee, said: “I would like to thank all those that took the time to respond to the consultation, and especially to the community representatives for their detailed consideration of the responses. The money raised through the sale of the old school building is a great opportunity to make a positive contribution to Tregaron, and this will be an extremely exciting development for the area.”

The recommendations were endorsed by the Charity Trustee Committee.
