Street Food Cinema returns with festive fun

Street Food Cinema returns next month for a festive drive-in movie experience with classic films, Christmas carol-oke, and the best of Cardiff’s street food vendors.

The run includes classic Christmas favourites Elf, Home Alone, Muppet Christmas Carol and Die Hard, alongside classic night-out movies like Batman Returns, Bridget Jones’ Diary and new release Tenet.

As Wales prepares for a uniquely different Christmas, the events team behind the drive-in is pulling out all the stops to deliver something extra special. Organiser Matt ‘the hat’ Lawton explained:

“We’re going all-out with pre-film experiences, lights, smoke, actors, music to give people a much-needed Christmas treat this year – a night out to remember full of entertainment, joy and cheer. And that’s on top of a line up of our favourite festive and family films and some of the best street food Wales has to offer. Our creative elves have been very busy!”

The Street Food Cinema began its life this summer created by the Street Food Circus team as a way of reimagining their festival and events business for socially distanced times. The idea has grown to include pre-show entertainment, sing-a-longs, games, walkabout performance and a whole lot more.

Films are shown on a huge 10m x 5.5 m LED screen with sound delivered via the car radio.

In addition to street food, popcorn and drinks, which are ordered via a simple app and brought to the car by elf usherettes, Father Christmas will be on hand to help out with deliveries of SFC retro-sweets gift boxes.

The drive-in takes place on the site of Splott Market in a covered, open-sided warehouse so events are weather-proof. Covid-safety measures are in place throughout the site and customers are asked to remain inside their cars at all times unless using the toilets.
