MHA, the UK’s 13th largest accountancy group has expanded its UK services by merging with Swansea-based firm Gerald Thomas.

Gerald Thomas has provided high-quality accountancy services for a variety of clients across South Wales for 100 years including advisory, audit, compliance and professional services. The merger expands MHA’s offering in the UK and enhances the current services offered to Gerald Thomas’ existing clients. The current Gerald Thomas offices have been renamed and all staff moved over to MHA, with the wider MHA team supporting the Swansea office to provide an increased range of specialist services for the region.

MHA’s Swansea office will be led by partners Brian Garland and Philip Williams, with John Evans and Margaret Jones becoming consultants to MHA. Rachel Doyle, formerly associate at Gerald Thomas, has also been promoted to Partner and Elinor Williams has been promoted to Director following the merger.

Brian Garland said “Having worked with MHA in the past, it became clear that they are a very suitable partner with similar values, ethos and approaches to client care and service. While our clients will see no change in the team that services them, this merger notably enhances our offering to businesses in Swansea and across South Wales with a more comprehensive suite of professional services. As MHA continues to grow with over 100 partners and 1,000 staff, we are excited for the increased value we can offer across a higher number of business sectors in 2023 and beyond.”

Rakesh Shaunak, Partner and Group Chairman of MHA Macintyre Hudson, said “Having built a fantastic reputation for providing high quality client service through impeccable standards of client care and technical expertise, we’re delighted to welcome Gerald Thomas into the MHA family. This merger represents an exciting expansion of MHA’s services into Wales and will help bring our growing sector expertise to a broader range of clients across the region.”
