The Morrisons Foundation has donated £16,000 to Techniquest; a local charity based in Cardiff, which has educated Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) for over 30 years. As a leading science centre, Techniquest provides educational opportunities to children across South Wales and the Morrisons Foundation are proud to support Techniquest in their continued efforts teaching the importance of STEM.

The support from the Morrisons Foundation will enable the charity to deliver science shows to 10 primary and 16 secondary schools in deprived areas of South Wales. The science shows will include ‘Material Magic’ and ‘Exploring Energy’, which allow for engaging, dramatic displays that instil a love of science in young minds. Since it was set up, the Morrisons Foundation has helped Techniquest to have a real impact for local children through their continued partnership.

Lesley Kirkpatrick, CEO of Techniquest, said, “We are so grateful for the ongoing support of the Morrisons Foundation. This is our third donation from the company and their generous giving has enabled us to reach over 8,000 children with free, interactive science shows, building skills, knowledge and a sense of fun. Morrisons’ donation has meant we’ve held interactive sessions with over 70 schools since 2016, and we hope to reach another 5,000 school children across South Wales before June 2020.”

Shannon Goodwin, Community Champion at the Morrisons store in Cardiff presented the donation to the charity. She said: “I’m really pleased that we were able to help such a great local charity.  Knowing that our support will make a genuine difference to so many local children really does make me proud. Helping local charities is at the heart of what the Foundation is all about and I’m so happy that we can provide this grant.”

The Morrisons Foundation was set up by Morrisons supermarket in 2015 and awards grants for charity projects which help improve people’s lives.  Since launching over £26 million has been donated to hundreds of charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

Local charities are encouraged to visit www.morrisonsfoundation.com to find out how to apply for a grant.
