If you go down to the park today….

… you will be sure to have a great day out as the Teddy Bears’ Picnic makes a welcome return to Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd, on Friday, June 17, 10am – 2pm.

Rhondda Cynon Taf’s youngest residents, their families and carers can enjoy a day out in beautiful surroundings, with fun, games and entertainment. Entry and entertainment is free – you can buy food on site or bring your own.

There will be a mini funfair, bouncy castle, arts and crafts, games and live entertainment from Charlie Bubbles and his Musical Trike, face-painters, balloon-modellers and lots more!

Aimed at those aged five and under – plus their parents or carers – the Teddy Bears’ Picnic is the perfect place to find out more about the many services and opportunity on offer for children and families – from inspiring young bookworms via the library service to how to access childcare, healthcare and more.

Each of the stalls offer information that is specifically for the families and carers of those aged five and under, with interactive and practical activities to showcase the work they do.

Among those who will be there to offer information and support are:

The Attendance and Wellbeing Service: Come along for a scavenger hunt and information on school attendance

    Catering

Have fun with our hook a healthy food game and find out more about school meals and how we aim to inspire healthy eating.

    Flying Start

Visit us for role play, story corners, tuff trays, building blocks and so much more, all designed for little ones aged 2 – 3 years!

    Play Team

Come and have some fun with the Play Team!  There will be lots of exciting activities to get involved with including face painting and glitter badge making!

    Resilient Families Service

Visit us for information on the family support we provide plus fun activities for the children in our tent. This year, our theme is based on the book Shark in the Park, and involves fun activities such as making masks, kites, a scavenger hunt, hook a shark game, making binoculars, sand play as well as other amazing activities. In addition, come and get your photograph taken with a shark and join our sing along and story times on the stage?

    Sport RCT

Children can join in sports coaching sessions, try out balance bikes, netball, football and athletics and learn from the team all about sporting opportunities in your area, such as teams to join, activities to enjoy and walks and exercises for all the family.

Annabel Lloyd, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Service Director for Childrens’ Services, said: “Teddy Bears’ Picnic is such a popular event as the theme of the day is fun and games.

“But amid all of the fun and laughter – and a day out in glorious Ynysangharad War Memorial Park – is the chance to pick up information on some of the essential support services that are on offer for children aged five and under, their families or carers.

“There are hundreds of services on offer to help children get the very best start in life, from choosing a school or childcare to getting involved in libraries, sports, healthy eating and more.

“It’s been several years since the park was filled with the fun of Teddy Bears’ Picnic and we cannot wait to welcome our youngest residents and their families and carers back. Don’t paws – book your ticket for Teddy Bears’ Picnic now.”

Entry to Teddy Bears’ Picnic and all activities are free. Food will be for sale on site. Booking is advised as there is limited capacity.

Teddy Bears’ Picnic is sponsored by Nathaniel Cars, who have been keeping the residents of Rhondda Cynon Taf and beyond on the road for more than 25 years, thanks to their friendly and professional teams in Bridgend and Cardiff. They have come on board to sponsor all What’s On RCT events in 2022, helping us to bring fun and entertainment to all.
